The painting is set on the slopes of the Gargano, in the Gulf of Manfredonia.
At the centre, in the foreground, a horse, who’s running free by the sea, stops, almost amazed, in front of a stone fragment. An archaeological find from pre-Roman times. Its vehement race is almost annihilated in the face of culture, of the archeology.
The horse in this metaphor represents the man who lives in a frenetic society, where the futile things are predominant. While the archaeological find represents the call to search for one's own being and roots, we don’t actually know if it will be capable in real life to fully attract our attention, or, if it does it will be when we least expect it.
